National Mitigation Investment Act Introduced in House
On May 10, 2016, Congressman Carlos Curbelo (FL-26) and Congressman Albio Sires (NJ-08) introduced H.R. 5177, the National Mitigation Investment Act. The legislation works to alleviate losses to residential and commercial property following a natural disaster through pre-disaster preventative measures.
Senate Judiciary Committee Approves PSOB Reform Legislation
On Thursday, June 9th, the Senate Judiciary Committee approved S. 2944, the Public Safety Officers’ Benefits Improvement Act. The legislation, sponsored by Senator Charles Grassley (IA) and Senator Kristen Gillibrand (NY), was approved by voice vote.
Congress Continues Work on Fiscal Year 2017 DHS Funding
On June 9th, the House Appropriations Committee Subcommittee on Homeland Security approved the draft Fiscal Year 2017 spending bill for the Department of Homeland Security. The $47.8 billion spending bill contains $6.7 billion for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and is $432 million above the White House’s requested funding level.
