Background:
  • Between 2003 and 2023, fire department response increased by 89 percent. In 2003, departments ran 22.4 million calls; by 2023, that number had grown to 42.4 million calls.
  • Meanwhile, the costs of gear and equipment continue to rise annually.
  • AFG supports the acquisition of lifesaving equipment, training, and apparatus, ensuring that fire departments are properly equipped to respond to fires, medical emergencies, and hazardous incidents.
  • SAFER helps fire departments maintain adequate staffing levels, allowing them to provide timely and effective emergency response.
  • These programs ensure that communities of all sizes can effectively respond to fires, medical emergencies, and other disasters.
  • As demand for fire and emergency response continues to rise, we must ensure that our fire and EMS personnel have what they need to protect lives and property.
