The Fire Grants and Safety Act (S.870/H.R.4090)
S.870 would reauthorize AFG, SAFER, and USFA through FY2030, extend the AFG and SAFER sunset to September 30, 2032, and increase the USFA authorization to $95 million. H.R.4090 is largely the same, but the reauthorization period would extend through FY2028 with a sunset in 2030 and it would separate the AFG and SAFER funding levels from the Consumer Price Index.
National Firefighter Registry Reauthorization
The legislation would reauthorize the National Firefighter Registry through FY2028.
Honoring Our Fallen Heroes Act
The legislation would update the Public Safety Officers’ Benefits (PSOB) Program to include presumptive benefits for firefighter occupational cancer.
Public Housing Fire Safety Act
The legislation creates a grant program for public housing agencies to install automatic sprinkler systems in certain public housing projects.
High-Rise Fire Sprinkler Incentive Act
The legislation amends the tax code to incentivize building owners to retrofit high-rise residential buildings with fire sprinkler systems.
Protecting Access to Ground Ambulance Medical Services Act
The legislation extends certain reimbursements received by ground ambulance services for transporting patients.
Supporting and Improving Rural EMS Needs (SIREN) Reauthorization Act
The legislation would reauthorize the SIREN grant program, which assists rural fire and EMS agencies with purchasing the equipment, obtaining the medications, and providing the training necessary to continue saving lives in their communities.
Helping Emergency Responders Overcome (HERO) Act
The legislation provides funding for peer counseling programs for public safety officers, and collects data on post-traumatic stress among public safety officers to assist in developing best practices and improve measures to recognize, prevent, and treat mental health issues among public safety officers.
FIRE STATION Act
The bill would authorize $750 million in fire station construction grants administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for modifying, upgrading, and building fire and EMS department facilities, including local fire and EMS stations and fire training facilities.
