Background:
  • USFA is the lead federal agency for the fire and emergency services, USFA ensuring that the fire service is prepared to respond to all hazards
  • USFA’s support and leadership in the areas of training, education, research, and data collection directly contribute to reducing fire-related deaths and injuries.
  • Each year, USFA provides training to approximately 100,000 fire and emergency service personnel through the National Fire Academy (NFA).
  • USFA also collects important data and conducts research to reduce the threat of fire and other dangers in local communities.
  • At a time when fire and EMS personnel are responding to increasing numbers of natural disasters; more medical emergency calls than ever before; the continued scourge of structural fires; increasing numbers of calls for hazardous materials response; and much more, it is essential that the agency tasked with supporting America’s fire and emergency services is properly resourced.
