📌FY24 AFG and SAFER Grants Released. CFSI has been working to ensure that the FY24 AFG and SAFER grants are released and we understand that award announcements are underway.

📊 Please take a moment to fill out our AFG and SAFER survey to tell us about your success stories and experiences with the grants.

📌Government Shutdown Watch: If Congress does not pass some form of funding bill by the end of the day on September 30, 2025, the government will shut down. Currently, the odds for averting a shutdown are not looking good. The House has passed a clean continuing resolution, but the Senate would need Democratic votes to pass it and Democrats are unwilling to vote for the bill since Republicans have not sat down with them to negotiate.

📌Congressional Hearings of Interest: Recently there have been a few hearings in Congress that are worth a watch:

  • The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee held a hearing on fire apparatus.
  • The House Energy and Commerce Committee held a hearing on public safety communications. CFSI joined several partner organizations in sending a letter to the committee in support of next generation 9-1-1 technologies and legislation.

📌National EMS Advisory Council Seeking New Members After Terminations: Just weeks after the Department of Transportation terminated all members of NEMSAC, the council is seeking new members. Per the new Federal Register Notice:

The purpose of NEMSAC is to serve as a nationally recognized council of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) representatives and consumers to provide advice and recommendations regarding EMS to DOT. Through NHTSA, NEMSAC’s advice is provided to the Secretary of Transportation and the Federal Interagency Committee on Emergency Medical Services (FICEMS).

Here’s how you can take action today:

➡️ One active “ask” is to include the Honoring Our Fallen Heroes Act (S.237) in the NDAA. An email script is provided!
