📌 Forest Service Chief Testifies to Senate Oversight Committee. The chief of the US Forest Service, Tom Schultz, provided testimony during an oversight hearing by the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Committee on June 2nd. In his opening statement, Chief Schultz noted that the Forest Service’s hiring rate of firefighters has increased six percent compared to this time last year, and that the safety of these firefighters is one of the Forest Service’s top priorities. Many of the questions from Senators focused on the Forest Service’s proposed plan for reorganization of the agency and its possible impact on research facilities in their respective states.
