WASHINGTON, DC (February 12, 2025) The Congressional Fire Services Institute (CFSI) is pleased to announce that four members of Congress have been selected as CFSI’s 2024 Legislators of the Year.

Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (NY), Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (LA), Senator Gary Peters (MI), and Congressman Tom Kean (NJ) each worked tirelessly in the 118th Congress to pass into law a fire and emergency service top legislative priority: the Fire Grants and Safety Act (P.L. 118-67). This bill reauthorized vital fire service grant programs and the U.S. Fire Administration.

“The Congressional Fire Services Institute is honored to recognize Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer, Senator Gary Peters, and Congressman Tom Kean as the 2024 Legislators of the Year for their outstanding leadership and tireless advocacy on behalf of America’s fire and emergency services. They worked diligently to champion critical legislation supporting our nation’s first responders, helping to ensure that America’s fire and EMS personnel have the tools, training, and resources needed to protect their communities,” said CFSI Board of Directors President Jim Estepp.  “CFSI is proud to celebrate their remarkable contributions and unwavering commitment to the fire service community.”
